A urine (pee) sample can test for STIs including; chlamydia, gonorrhea, mycoplasma genitalium, and trichomonas.
Here are a few tips before you begin:
Read the printed instructions in your kit first. That has the most up-to-date information.
Give yourself enough time, so you’re relaxed.
The best time to collect your sample is first thing in the morning—the very first pee, just after you’ve woken up.
Before collecting your urine sample, you should not have urinated for at least one hour.
If you recently urinated, drinking a large glass of water will help you be ready to give a urine sample in one hour.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Collecting Your Urine Sample
Collect Your Sample
Wash your hands.
Unpack the kit on a clean surface, ideally in a bathroom.
Put the collection pouch on a clean, flat surface near the toilet.
Remove the cap from the sample tube and place it on a nearby surface.
When you’re ready, pee into the pouch (you’ll find some helpful instructions on the pouch). It’s important to catch the first pee that comes out as this gives the test the best chance of being accurate.
Carefully pour your pee sample into the bottle. The tube needs to be full to the fill line shown on the side of the collection tube.
Press down firmly to secure the cap.
Place the bottle into the transport bag, fold the top of the bag over and seal it.
Pour any urine left in the collection pouch down the toilet and give the pouch a quick rinse.
Dispose of the collection pouch in your household waste.
Complete the Form
Write your name and date of birth on the form provided, along with the date your samples were collected. If you can’t complete the form yourself, ask someone for help.
Place the form and your samples back into the kit box and return the box following the instructions in step three.
Please note, your samples cannot be tested without the completed form.
Return Your Sample
Your sample should be returned on the day it was collected. If this is not possible, store it in a refrigerator until returned.
Check that the sample has been closed tightly and is in a sealed transport bag.
Place your sample and your completed form back into the kit box. Close it securely by inserting the two large tabs on the box lid into the slots, pressing down firmly to lock them into place. Apply the clear security seal provided or add tape for extra security.
The return postage has been pre-paid, just drop the kit box into any USPS mailbox.
